O’Reilly Auto Parts: Your Complete Car Care Destination

Established in 1957, O’Reilly Auto Parts is a leading retailer specializing in auto parts, accessories, tools, and supplies suitable for every vehicle need. Catering to both professional mechanics and do-it-yourself enthusiasts, the company has grown from a single store in Springfield, Missouri, to a widespread network of over 5,100 locations across 47 states, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Founded by Michael Byrne O’Reilly, who settled in St. Louis and initially worked in title examining, the company's growth was driven by his son Charles and later his grandson Chub. Together, they expanded the business, transforming it into one of the most trusted auto parts brands in the U.S.

Following a reorganization in 1957, Charles and Chub O’Reilly decided to launch their own company, leading to the birth of O’Reilly Auto Parts. Starting with a single store in Springfield, they achieved $700,000 in sales in 1958, which grew to $1.3 million by 1961. By 1975, their sales hit $7 million, and they operated nine stores in Missouri. They built a substantial distribution facility in Kansas City to support their growth.
O’Reilly went public in 1993 on NASDAQ as ORLY, offering employee stock options. Major acquisitions, including Hi/Lo Auto Supply in 1998—adding 182 stores and a distribution center in Houston—propelled O’Reilly into the top ten auto parts chains nationally. The company continued to expand, acquiring KarPro Auto Parts in 2000, which included a new Arkansas distribution center, and Mid State Automotive Distributors in 2001, adding more stores and centers. In 2008, the acquisition of CSK Auto further boosted their presence with over 1,273 new stores across 12 states, making O’Reilly the third-largest auto parts retailer in the U.S.
By 2018, O’Reilly operated over 5,147 stores nationwide and has plans to add another 200 locations, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to growth and superior service.
