In 1973, Motorola engineer Martin Cooper made the first wireless call using a handheld device—a milestone in telecommunications history. The original phone weighed over a kilogram and provided limited battery life. Before this, Ericsson created the automated MTA phone in Sweden, but it was impractical due to its weight. The development of cellular networks, starting with Finland’s first network in 1971, paved the way for widespread mobile usage after 1990.

Progression through various network generations marked key milestones: 1G introduced analog systems, 2G brought digital GSM networks, and 3G enabled internet access on mobile devices.
