The Children’s Place, based in the United States, is a prominent retailer specializing in children's apparel and accessories. Celebrated for its diverse brands, the company began offering kids' jackets around 1969. By 2017, it operated approximately 1,399 stores across various locations, including Canada and Puerto Rico, with an online presence serving over 12 countries worldwide. Between 2004 and 2007, Children’s Place competed effectively with Disney Stores in the children’s outerwear market.
Disney transferred its children’s jacket inventory to Hoop Holdings, a Children’s Place subsidiary, under a 15-year license worth $100 million. The royalty agreement was extended until October 2006, with Disney earning a 10% royalty. By 2013, jackets were available in nearly all Children’s Place stores, and promotions encouraged sales. However, Hoop Holdings faced bankruptcy and owed Wells Fargo around $35 million.
