Overview:


Peking University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. It ranks among the “Double First-Class”, “211 Project”, and “985 Project”. Peking University is the oldest institution of higher learning in China. It was founded on the occasion of the 1898 Reformation and was originally named Jingshi University. It was the first national comprehensive university in modern times in China. The ancient Guozijian School (Imperial College of Technology). In 1912, it was changed to National Peking University. By the early 1920s, it had become the center of China's progressive thinking and played an important role in major historical events such as China's New Culture Movement and the May Fourth Movement. The earliest spread of Marxism and scientific and democratic thought in China was one of the important bases for the founding of the Communist Party of China.


In 1937, it moved south to Changsha and formed the National Changsha Provisional University with National Tsinghua University and the private Nankai University. In 1938, it moved to Kunming and was renamed National Southwest Associated University. Demobilized and returned to Peking (now Beijing) in 1946. In 1952, after the adjustment of colleges and departments across the country, it became a comprehensive university focusing on basic subjects of liberal arts and sciences, and moved to its current location from Beijing Beach and other places. In 2000, it merged with the former Beijing Medical University to form the new Peking University.


Peking University has always been rated as a top academic institution in China. In addition to its academic reputation, it is also known for its stunning campus grounds and the beauty of traditional Chinese architecture. Peking University has trained some of the most outstanding figures in Chinese history, including Mao Zedong.


The main campus of the university is located at the site of the imperial garden in the Qing Dynasty. It has traditional Chinese gardens, including traditional houses, gardens, pagodas, and many famous historical buildings and structures. Weiming Lake is located on the north side of the campus, surrounded by walking paths and small gardens.


There are also museums on the university campus, such as the University History Museum and the Arthur M. Sackler Museum of Art and Archaeology, where students can view objects dating back thousands of years. This is an environment that satisfies the curiosity of young students-not that academic programs have not yet done so.


Peking University is a leading university in scientific research and teaching, and has successfully developed applied scientific research and teaching. There are 30 colleges, 12 departments, 93 undergraduate majors, 199 master majors, and 173 doctoral students.


Beijing is eager for students not only to receive a comprehensive education, but also to fully participate in student life. Campus life is rich and colorful, sports activities and extracurricular activities are rich and colorful, and there are more than 200 student organizations and a series of activities throughout the year.


Sports are very important. The Peking University Cup Track and Field Championships are held every year.
