Comprehensive Instructions for Proper Use of Symbicort Inhalers
Understanding how to operate your Symbicort inhaler is crucial for effective asthma or COPD management. Each inhaler contains specific dosage strengths: 80/4.5 for asthma and 160/4.5 for COPD. These inhalers are prescribed when other treatments have not provided sufficient relief and are suitable for individuals aged 12 and older. Proper priming, cleaning, and correct inhalation technique are essential to maximize benefits and reduce risks. Always follow your healthcare provider’s guidance and adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage schedule.
Before initial use, prime your inhaler by shaking vigorously for 5 seconds. Remove the mouthpiece cover by pressing on the sides. Hold the inhaler upright, shake again for 5 seconds, and spray space away from your face to ensure proper priming. To inhale, place the mouthpiece in your mouth, seal lips around it, press the canister fully, and breathe in deeply. Hold your breath for about 10 seconds, then exhale slowly. Repeat if necessary after shaking for 5 seconds. Always clean the mouthpiece with a tissue after use and keep track of remaining doses through the actuation counter. When the indicator shows 20 doses remaining or the dial turns orange, it’s time for a replacement.
Use your Symbicort inhaler exactly as prescribed. If you miss a dose, take it immediately unless it’s near the time for your next dose—do not double up. Maintaining proper dosage helps manage symptoms effectively. Besides Symbicort, other inhalers like Spiriva are also available for respiratory conditions.
