The large size of CRT TVs was due to the presence of the screen and an electron gun. When electrons were fired onto the screen, they energized particles to produce images. Since the early 2000s, with the advent of smaller LCD screens, demand for CRTs has significantly decreased.
LCD Technology: LCDs, or Liquid Crystal Displays, replaced CRTs in the early 2000s. These panels consist of segments filled with liquid crystals whose transparency and color change based on electrical signals. Because LCD screens lack their own light source, they rely on external backlights like fluorescent lamps to display images. As picture quality improved over time, LCDs began to be replaced by LEDs. Although more costly than LCDs or LEDs, plasma screens offer superior image quality, especially on larger sizes over 40 inches. Samsung's plasma models are popular among enthusiasts.
OLED Technology: Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) is the latest display innovation. Unlike LEDs, OLEDs use organic compounds like carbon that produce light when energized, eliminating the need for backlighting. This results in ultra-thin, flexible screens with exceptional contrast, color accuracy, and faster image processing. Due to these advantages, OLED TVs tend to be premium-priced but deliver unmatched visual quality.
