Founded in 1948, Wrangler's origins trace back to Blue Bell Inc., which acquired Casey Jones Inc., the original owner of the brand. Rodeo performer and Hollywood designer Rodeo Ben crafted the initial collection, debuting the first jacket, model 11MJ. Early designs featured button closures until 1950, when zippers replaced buttons. The jackets included shoulder vents, elastic-backed shoulder straps, and a snug fit allowing ample movement. Wrangler's branding included the Blue Bell logo and distinctive labels that evolved over time.

By 1950, Blue Bell secured the Walt Disney licensing deal, and Wrangler introduced its second jacket version, replacing button closures with zippers on model 8MZ. Minor modifications included elastic side panels at the back. Sleeve vents changed, and the designs incorporated a single breast pocket and dual hip pockets. In 1956, a winter version with model 8ML was released. The late 1950s and early 1960s saw the launch of colorful jackets like the 22MJZ. In 1964, Wrangler launched broken twill denim, which prevented twisting. Models like 24MJZ added functionality with extra pockets, and rivets gradually disappeared.
